It has been a bad week!

Ladies and gentlemen, it has been one heck of a week! Things have been going crazy is week… I feel like there is some weird cosmic interference in my life! Kidding of course, however, it certainly feels that way. So far this week, my computer has died completely, I have tapped myself super low on money without payday being close, I am battling a cold, I tried to cook chili and it tasted awful, the time changed, the beef for tonight’s dinner was bad so we went for Arby’s, Arby’s didn’t put Matt’s sandwich in the bag, which I didn’t notice until I went home and then I had to go back and get it, my jeans ripped today, it is that time of year where the kids are al getting restless and not listening very well…this run-on list could continue… but needless to say, it has been one of “those weeks.”

Since my computer is dead, and I am strapped on cash, that means that I will have a more difficult time making posts. There particularly will not be posts with nice pictures until I can get my computer back up and running again. I will do my best to keep up until then. Let’s hope this coming week will be better than this one has been!!!

Weight-loss Wednesday: Why Is It So Hard?

There was no post on the blog yesterday because I don’t have anything new in the Etsy store!  It is so difficult to actually find time to make things.  I am working on a set of placemats.  I’m actually making two sets right now, but one is for our own table!  The other will be in the store by the end of the week… I’m hoping to finish it tonight.  I also plan to TRY to make a pillow or two, maybe this weekend… we’ll see.

Being overweight, obese, or morbidly obese has been a battle I have been fighting for most of my 28 years.  Pretty much from middle school on, my weight has been a huge struggle for me.  Part of that reason is because I am addicted to food and I abuse it.  I eat for any emotion, including boredom.  I find an incredible amount of fulfillment in that feeling of being completely satiated.  I have very little self control when it comes to my own personal monitoring, unless I somehow snap into this zone of complete concentration.  However, I feel these are all really excuses.  I am in control over what I put in my body, and what I do with my body.  It is all mind over matter.  I have to make it happen and stop allowing food to control me.

So, after a little pep-talk from Matt two nights ago, I’m forcing myself back into this thing.  I haven’t snapped into my super concentrated weight-loss mode; I’m forcing it to happen.  I created myself a new My Fitness Pal account, because I did much better when I was logging everything I ate.  Is it a pain?  Yep; however, it seems to be a necessary evil for me to keep track of what goes in my mouth.  I am still going to allow myself Saturdays without restrictions, this way I won’t feel entirely deprived and have those junk food binge moments.

I also strapped on my pedometer this morning for the first time in a little less than a year.  This was a big motivator for me to move more when I wore it before, and I’m not really sure why I stopped wearing it.

Anyhow, those are my changes that I am making, along with trying to implement some actual exercise a few times a week in the privacy of my own bedroom.  I’ll keep you updated on how it goes!

The Sunday Recap (A Day Late)

Sorry this is coming on Monday morning, rather than on Sunday as promised.  I am going to blame it on stinkin’ daylight savings time and how badly it throws me off.

I’m writing this post to the lovely sound of my two dogs play-murdering one another and eating lukewarm eggs and bacon and drinking tepid coffee.  Be jealous.

Wedding update:  Matt and I have found our Officiant for our wedding.  She is a very nice woman who has been a Minister since 1989.  She is very easy going and is willing to allow us to customize our ceremony – which I really like.  I got my cheap dress in the mail from China, feeling very hopeful, and I don’t like it.  It was a risky move, and I came out on the losing end.  Oh well, it was worth a try, I guess.  Who knows, maybe when I pull it out in a month, I’ll like it again.  If not, I’ll be going on a dress hunt pretty soon.  I just hate the idea of spending SO MUCH money on something that is only going to be worn one time.  This weekend we also bought Matt’s ring.  So now, the only major things that I need to get taken care of are a dress, flowers, the honeymoon, and making the decorations.  We have the venue, catering, cake, DJ, officiant, rings, and cake topper all taken care of.  I feel like we’re doing well with still 7.5 months to go.

This past week:  Matt and I went out to dinner at a restaurant my dad got us a gift certificate to for our birthdays.  I will refrain from mentioning names because I don’t need for people to pinpoint our location.  However, I can say that our meal was absolutely delicious.  The atmosphere was great – we were in a romantic little corner surrounded by an exposed brick wall, the front window, and the glass entryway which had plants hanging down their full length.  We are our dinner by candlelight, and it was very sweet.  Matt had a salad and a NY strip with green beans and potatoes.  I had a delicious chicken dish with a French martini, and we shared a half order of pasta carbonara.  Needless to say, this wasn’t a low calorie meal.  We finished off by sharing a brownie a la mode with freshly made caramel.  Good grief, it was SO good!

I got my “shop” more set up in the basement and started working on some things for the Etsy store – which is currently empty!  There will hopefully be a post later this week to show some of the things I am adding to the store.  No more customization orders for now – it simply takes WAY too long and isn’t worth the money at the moment.  If I can come up with a quicker way to accomplish what I want, then maybe.

Hi ho hi ho… off to work I go!  Have a wonderful day!

Soon…

So, obviously, I haven’t been very good at keeping up with this.  *Insert my excuses about very busy month of February here.*  I sat down and tried to work out a blog schedule, which I will begin on Sunday!  My goal is still to have 4/5 posts per week – likely to fall on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Sunday will be my personal wrap-ups.  Tuesday  is for when I have new things available on Etsy, Wednesday for weightloss updates, habits, and frustrations, Thursday for things I love and reviews, and Friday for new recipe posts.  Thoughts?

Another Year Older: The Big 2-8.

So, yesterday I turned 28.  28 is going to be a big year for me and I am very excited about it!  For those of you who don’t know, I get to marry the love of my life in October of this year.  He is my perfect match and treats me so well.  I could go on about my love for Matt, but I’ll stay on track here… people don’t want to read my mush!  I also get to plan this wedding, a non-traditional, DIY, natural chic wedding of sorts, and I am loving every bit of it.  I love seeing my ideas slowly come together to make, what I know, will be one of the happiest days of my entire life.

Back to my birthday,  I got to see my Dad and Betsy this weekend; I love getting to spend time with them.  They gave us a certificate to have dinner at a nice restaurant in a local college town that we have been meaning to try.  We all went to have Thai for lunch, my absolute favorite.  If you know me personally, you know that I could happily live off of various Asian foods for the rest of my life.   Then, we walked around to some of the little shops and boutiques, and made a pit-stop at an old antique warehouse to see if I could find myself a coffee mill.  No such luck – we have found several, but apparently I’m pickier than I thought.  I have now also added an old wooden pulley to my list of things to find.  The problem with so many of these things is the price – I feel like they charge way too much for what it is!

From DecorSteals.com

I feel very scattered in this post, but I guess that speaks to how my mind is working right now!   I bought these hanging herb boxes from DecorSteals.com and got them a week or so ago.  We just got them finally filled up last night.  I will attempt to take a better picture of them for a separate post.  However, I love them!  The dried herb wreath in the bottom box was a gift from Betsy’s mom, Sue.  It ended up being perfect for this spot!  Also, those candles in the sage box smell absolutely amazing.  They are Yankee, but I got them for about $3 a piece on after-Christmas clearance.  They are hanging in our kitchen, and I am so pleased with how they look!  Hooray for impulse purchases that work out!

On that note, I need to end this entirely random, scatter-brained post and head to work! <3

A New Addition to Our Family

Meet Bella:

Bella

She is precious.  Pardon the crate picture, but she was just spayed yesterday afternoon and is recovering.  She is so sweet and loving.  At the moment, she is in a lot of pain and still kind of loopy from the medicine.  She is 1.5 – 2 years old and her family gave her up because they were moving.  Their loss is our gain.  We will take great care of her and give her a very happy life!

Available in the Etsy Shop: Burlap Placemats

I am now offering these customized burlap placemats in my Teal Road North Etsy shop!  They are cute and fit right in with the shabby chic, cottage chic, eco-chic trend that is so hot right now.  They are available with customized word choice (eat, drink, be merry, family, friends, yum!, love, life, live, laugh, etc.)  They also are available with a monogrammed option.  You can choose between a hemmed edge or a frayed edge.

What do you think?  What other burlap options should I offer?  I’m currently working on some pillow prototypes, as well as some burlap runners.  Stay tuned!

Weight Loss… What I’m Doing Wrong (A Top Five List)

So, my weight loss progress for the month of January is disappointing.   I have no one but myself to blame for my lack of results.  It wasn’t a complete bust, I did lose about 5-6 pounds.  However,  I was hoping for a much more significant loss.  Here are the top five things I am doing wrong, which I am going to fix this for this month!

  1. Weight loss isn’t going to magically happen.  No matter how much you want to pretend it is going to, you are actually going to have to make some sacrifices and put some effort into it.
  2. For my body, and for many of yours, the most beneficial way to lose weight, will be to give up refined foods, fast food, and sugars.  Kiss potatoes, bread, corn, rice, sugary treats, those delicious Chick-fil-A breakfast burritos, and your frozen yogurt bar binges goodbye.
  3. Starting your day with a substantial amount of protein (30 grams) will keep you full, stocked with energy, and help you to replace fat mass with muscle mass.
  4. You can’t continue to sit around on your massive butt and expect it to shrink.
  5. Wearing a pedometer will help you to keep track of how active you are each day.  Logging this, along with what you eat each day, will help you to be successful.  I recommend, as do other people who are actually experts on this matter, taking pictures of what you are eating rather than trying to write it all down.  It can be far too tedious to sit and log every ingredient you are consuming.

Hopefully, I will be able to adhere to this list, keep myself active, and take control over what is going in my mouth.  After all, I am the one who has to pick up those tasty treats and shove them in my mouth!
What are your weight loss and/or fitness goals for the month of February?

Mine is to lose 15 pounds of actual fat.  This will take a lot of work, yes – so, let’s get started, shall we?

Recipe: Super Tender Beef and Gravy

My fiancé is easy to cook for because he will eat pretty much whatever I make for him.  However, every now and then, I like to branch out of what my choice foods are and cook something I know he will love.  I kind of made this one up as I went, following a bit of the same recipe that I would use for making my Beef Bourguignon dish that is his favorite.  For those red meat eaters out there, I would bet this one will be a hit for you, too!
